Biography

Tuesday 26 November, 9:30 – 9:55 | The future of offshore hydrogen

Jan Willem, co-founder and Director of Business Development at HYGRO, has been driving innovation in renewable energy since 2002. He has been instrumental in studies conducted jointly with organizations like TNO and NREL, gaining insights into the possibility of doubling the energy yield of offshore wind within the available offshore space and delivering energy at a lower cost to end-users by means of hydrogen. Recognizing the transformative impact of hydrogen infrastructure on renewable energy design and storage, he co-founded HYGRO and initiated the DUWAAL project to implement and realize this vision. Jan Willem led the DUWAAL initiative, integrating wind energy with hydrogen production, and developed the iBundle system for hydrogen storage and distribution by road as a precursor to a nationwide hydrogen pipeline infrastructure. By demonstrating the benefits of hydrogen infrastructure, his vision is to make hydrogen a primary energy carrier.

“The world currently views electricity like a carpenter who believes the hammer is the best tool he has; therefore, every problem becomes a nail, overlooking the opportunities that a screw could offer.”
