The Conference

26 & 27 November 2024
Content program during Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference.

It’s all about harmony!

This years’ event theme at Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference (OEEC), Harmony encompasses a range of aspects, including environmental protection, stakeholder collaboration, technological integration, safety, and international cooperation. Achieving harmony in these areas is crucial for the successful and sustainable innovative development of offshore renewable energy resources.

OEEC 2024 will reflect on harmony by providing space for the entire industry to discuss the latest burning questions at the Offshore Energy Conference, with dedicated conference sessions for offshore wind, hydrogen, and topics that concern the offshore energy sector as a whole.

Program for Tuesday 26 November

Floating Wind: Expanding the offshore wind market

09:30 – 10:30

Location will be shared soon

Floating wind is waiting to deployed at scale to kick off cost reduction. Current challenges predominantly include lack of port capacities as most floating tech that is maturing requires full port assembly and maintenance via turbines being towed to port and back, instead of on-site repairs like in conventional, fixed-bottom offshore wind. It’s expected that calls for standardization will be a focal point in this industry too as there are currently nearly 100 technology designs.

Speakers
   – Axelle Viré, Professor Floating Offshore Wind at TU Delft
   – James Young, Chief Strategy and Compliance Officer at JDR Cables
   – Tommy Sandtorv, CCO Karmsund Port at Karmsund Port Authority
   – Richard den Hollander, Global Business Development and Account Management Director at Seaway 7

Green Growth: Securing a sustainable future

11:30 – 12:30

Meeting Room L103-L104 (Open Session)

How can we harmonize economic growth with environmental sustainability? And improving the eco-efficiency of economic growth and enhancing the synergies between environment and economy? Europe has a front runner position when it comes to clean tech. What are the benefits and challenges of this quest for balance?

Speakers
   – Pieter Huyskens, Group Director RD&I at Damen Shipyards Group
   – Corine Franken, Senior Investment Manager at Invest-NL
   – Bas Nekeman, Business Unit Director Northern Europe at DEME Offshore

CCS: Completing the climate change menu

14:00 – 15:00

Meeting Room L103-L104 (Open Session)

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is going to play an important role in the transition to net zero emissions. Many believe it is vital in realizing the climate goals of the future. However, it’s no secret that its adoption will face many challenges before reaching a significant scale. Think of mismatched scale of operations, ongoing storage liabilities and the social dynamics in the industry and society.

Speakers
   – Berte Simons, Business Unit Director CO2 Storage & Transportsystems at EBN
   – Alistair Macfarlane, Manager UK Carbon Transport & Storage at NSTA
   – Martin van Onna, CEO at Strohm
   – Flaviu Barsan, Energy Transition Manager at ONE-Dyas

Presentation Program Nature Regeneration North Sea

15:30 – 16:15

Meeting Room L103-L104 (Open Session)

Jeroen Vis of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature will introduce the new program Nature Regeneration North Sea. In this Public Private Partnership, we want to achieve a more resilient and richer North Sea, in order to create space for sustainable use. With a learning-by-doing approach, knowledge is gathered for improving the overall ecosystem. This knowledge is then used to effectively realize large-scale nature enhancement in the North Sea.

Speakers
   – Jeroen Vis, Program lead Nature Regeneration North Sea at the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature

Grids and interconnectors: Piecing it together

09:30 – 10:30

Meeting Room L103-L104 (Open Session)

Every offshore wind substation and export cable is a kind of a grid on its own. Besides single project connections, there are also offshore platforms connecting multiple offshore wind farms. On top of this, there are offshore interconnectors between countries’ electricity grids, several existing and many new planned. Transparency and collaboration are key to make the right choices.

Speakers
Huygen van Steen, Program Manager Offshore Wind and Energy System at RVO
Joris Koornneef, Lead scientist North Sea Energy programme at TNO
Saskia Jaarsma, Head of Offshore Development – Large Projects Offshore at TenneT
Michiel van Rij, Country Lead Offshore Wind Development Netherlands at RWE

Supply Chain: Smooth the process

11:30 – 12:30

Meeting Room L103-L104 (Open Session)

A smooth supply chain is essential in realizing the energy transition. Yet the offshore energy supply chain faces a variety of challenges and bottlenecks that could hamper the with renewable energy targets. What can be done to secure resilient supply chains? Expect discussions on topics such as shortages, recycling and aligning supply chains and policy measures.

Speakers
