CCS, Nature Enhancement, Seabed Security and Buzzing Exhibition Floor—Lookback at OEEC 2024

Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference 2024 (OEEC 2024) was a success and with the first days of 2025, we wanted to revisit some of the most significant moments. Below is a selection of updates and articles that can provide a good insight into 2024 conference discussions, as well as the exhibition, and these are just a small part of the program from our event in November 2024.

The 17th edition of OEEC offered quite a few new things and we were more than happy to learn that these were well accepted by our exhibitors and visitors.

The night before the event kicked off, we organized an Executive Networking Dinner and the following morning more than 400 exhibitors and co-exhibitors filled the exhibition floor. In 2024, OEEC set up a pavilion dedicated to nature enhancement solutions for the first time. At the conference, the topics of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and seabed security drew a crowd and floating wind, which returned to our program for the third year and again saw a lively session.

🔵 Exclusive Networking Dinner

On the evening of November 25, OEEC 2024 guests from around the world who signed up for the Exclusive Networking Dinner got together at the iconic Capital C in Amsterdam.

🔵 Nature Enhancement Pavilion

Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference put nature enhancement front and center in the 2024 edition, including it more prominently in the conference program and dedicating an entire pavilion to environmental solutions on the exhibition floor.

🔵 400+ Exhibitors

More than 400 exhibitors and co-exhibitors were present on the exhibition floor, coming from both private and public sectors, all the industries in the offshore energy and maritime sectors, and a variety of business fields.

🔵 Panel discussions with global reach

With an impressive speaker lineup every year, discussions at OEEC conference and The Stage have a reach that extends far beyond the annual event.

  • ‘Blind underwater’: Energy industry needed to improve North Sea seabed security, OEEC panel says

Security is a topic that has expanded in the last couple of years, bringing new worries to Europe. With a number of incidents occurring in European seas that harmed subsea (energy) infrastructure, seabed security made its way onto one of the first places on the energy security chart. A panel at Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference (OEEC) agreed that no one knows what is going on below the North Sea surface and threats are undoubtedly incoming, thereby prevention needs to be accelerated by finding new ways of using what is already available.

  • Supply Chain Calls for Narrowing Down Floating Wind Platform Designs

“We probably have around 150 different floating wind platform designs at the moment. So how do you design a perfect port for floating wind”, Tommy Sandtorv, CCO Karmsund Port at Karmsund Port Authority, said on 26 November at Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference (OEEC) in Amsterdam, during a discussion about the challenges in the supply chain arising from the wide range of floater designs out there.

  • OEEC: CCS will employ as many people as oil & gas at its peak

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is seen as a bridge to help the world wean off carbon fuels. With that in mind, this developing technology is not going to be temporary and is definitely going to happen on a large scale. To reach that as quickly as possible, we need regulations, licensing, a supply chain, as well as trust from society, the CCS: Completing the climate change menu session at Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference concluded, highlighting the need for more projects to enable better understanding of what is working and what not.

🔵 Dutch Government’s program

The Dutch Government, through the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), organizes workshops, masterclasses and roundtables during OEEC. At the workshops, RVO and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate provide updates on policies and tender procedures for offshore wind in the Netherlands, while masterclasses are organized for invited foreign government officials and trade missions delegates who want to get an insight into how the Netherlands does things.
