The Conference

26 & 27 November 2024
Content program during Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference.

We are thrilled to unveil the vibrant palette of the offshore energy sector at The Conference on the exhibition floor. Here, amidst the challenges and ambitions of offshore energy sector, we bring many parts of this dynamic industry into the spotlight. The Stage is hosted by our moderator Rogier Elshout.

It’s all about harmony!

The content program of Offshore Energy emphasizes the importance of cooperation and coordination in the process of shifting from traditional fossil fuels to more sustainable and renewable energy sources. Achieving a sustainable and clean energy future requires working together across sectors, borders, and disciplines to ensure a smooth and effective transition towards cleaner, renewable alternatives.

Achieving harmony in areas like environmental protection, stakeholder collaboration, technological integration, safety and international cooperation, is crucial for the successful and sustainable development of offshore energy resources.

Program for Tuesday 26 November

Floating Wind

09:30 – 10:30

Location will be shared soon

Floating wind is waiting to deployed at scale to kick off cost reduction. Current challenges predominantly include lack of port capacities as most floating tech that is maturing requires full port assembly and maintenance via turbines being towed to port and back, instead of on-site repairs like in conventional, fixed-bottom offshore wind. It’s expected that calls for standardization will be a focal point in this industry too as there are currently nearly 100 technology designs.

Speakers
– Axelle Viré, Professor Floating Offshore Wind at TU Delft
– Remco Boersma, Director Contracting & Construction at Ventolines
Tommy Sandtorv, CCO Karmsund Port at Karmsund Port Authority
– Richard den Hollander, Global Business Development and Account Management Director at Seaway 7

CCS

11:00 – 12:30

Meeting Room L103-L104 (Open Session)

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is going to play an important role in the transition to net zero emissions. Many believe it is vital in realizing the climate goals of the future. However, it’s no secret that its adoption will face many challenges before reaching a significant scale. Think of mismatched scale of operations, ongoing storage liabilities and the social dynamics in the industry and society.

Speakers
Berte Simons, Business Unit Director CO2 Storage & Transportsystems at EBN
Alistair Macfarlane, Manager UK Carbon Transport & Storage at NSTA
Martin van Onna, CEO at Strohm

Green Growth

14:00 – 15:00

Meeting Room L103-L104 (Open Session)

How can we harmonize economic growth with environmental sustainability? And improving the eco-efficiency of economic growth and enhancing the synergies between environment and economy? Europe has a front runner position when it comes to clean tech. What are the benefits and challenges of this quest for balance?

Grids and interconnectors

09:30 – 10:30

Meeting Room L103-L104 (Open Session)

Every offshore wind substation and export cable is a kind of a grid on its own. Besides single project connections, there are also offshore platforms connecting multiple offshore wind farms. On top of this, there are offshore interconnectors between countries’ electricity grids, several existing and many new planned. Transparency and collaboration are key to make the right choices.

Speakers
– Fedor van Veen, Managing Director at Iv-Offshore & Energy
Joris Koornneef, Lead scientist North Sea Energy programme at TNO
– Saskia Jaarsma, Head of Offshore Development – Large Projects Offshore at TenneT
– Dr Joyce von Marschall, Director Offshore Development Netherlands & Belgium at RWE

Supply Chain

11:30 – 12:30

Meeting Room L103-L104 (Open Session)

A smooth supply chain is essential in realizing the energy transition. Yet the offshore energy supply chain faces a variety of challenges and bottlenecks that could hamper the with renewable energy targets. What can be done to secure resilient supply chains? Expect discussions on topics such as shortages, recycling and aligning supply chains and policy measures.

Speakers
Zahra Janipour, Energy Transition Specialist at Rabobank
– Rebecca Groundwater, Head of External Affairs at EIC (Energy Industries Council)
– Paul Flos, Program Director International Naval Materiel Cooperation at Ministry of Defence The Netherlands
– Venterra Group

DMEC - Innovations for offshore renewable energy tenders

14:00 – 15:00

Meeting Room L103-L104 (Open Session)

Join us for an engaging conference session on ‘Innovations for offshore renewable energy tenders’. As non-price criteria are increasingly recognised as a key element in offshore tenders, we will explore how innovative solutions in the fields of nature-inclusive design and system integration can enhance energy security & sustainability of offshore renewable energy projects. Expect insights from various industry stakeholders on the topics of:

– Developments in offshore tender design
– Offshore system integration
– Nature-inclusive development and biodiversity enhancement
