Last year’s Innovation Award winner, Carlos Oliveira, CEO of Fibersail, shared his experience after winning the award. With their groundbreaking blade shape-sensing technology, Fibersail developed a unique solution to detect small internal blade damages, reducing repair cost and improving AEP by increasing turbine availability.
We caught up with Carlos to learn how winning at OEEC 2024 has shaped Fibersail’s journey, what opportunities have emerged since, and what they’re looking forward to as they return to OEEC2025, this time as part of the Innovation Beacon Booth.
How has OEEC impacted Fibersail so far?
OEEC has opened many doors for us. It’s a unique platform connecting the full offshore energy value chain — from traditional players to cutting-edge renewables. For Fibersail, it has meant visibility, meaningful conversations, and connections with decision-makers, investors, and collaborators who share our vision for smarter, more efficient wind energy. It’s not just exposure — it’s building real momentum in the market.
How did it feel to win the Innovation Award at OEEC2024? (jury: David Molenaar, Celina van den Bank, Nelleke Vuik)
Winning was a proud moment. Being recognized by such a respected jury validated the impact of our technology and mission. It’s incredibly rewarding to see our approach to blade sensing in offshore wind acknowledged by industry leaders who truly understand innovation in the energy transition.
The prize included a Beacon Booth at OEEC2025. Are you excited about it?
Absolutely! The Beacon Booth is a fantastic opportunity, and we’re thrilled to showcase Fibersail at OEEC2025. The team is ready and excited to connect with new partners, clients, and innovators this November in Amsterdam.
What are you looking forward to at OEEC2025?
We’re eager to show how our technology is evolving and scaling. Discussions around offshore wind efficiency, data-driven operations, and sensing technology’s role in reducing maintenance costs are key for us. And of course, we’re looking forward to closing deals to install our shape-sensing technology in upcoming offshore wind farms.
What advice would you give to innovators hesitating to apply for a nomination?
Don’t hesitate — apply. OEEC offers visibility and validation within the offshore energy industry. The Innovation Award is a unique chance to showcase your solution to an audience that values bold, forward-thinking ideas. If you believe in your innovation, this is the place to be.
As Fibersail prepares to take the stage again at OEEC2025, their story stands as a testament to the power of innovation, collaboration, and perseverance in the offshore energy transition. Carlos Oliveira’s advice to future applicants says it all — believe in your idea and take the leap. The OEEC Innovation Award isn’t just a recognition; it’s a gateway to growth, visibility, and lasting impact across the global energy landscape.
